The Code

Code of Federal Regulations: Sec. 61.57

Recent flight experience: Pilot in command.

(a) General experience. (1) Except as provided in paragraph (e) of this section, no person may act as a pilot in command of an aircraft carrying passengers or of an aircraft certificated for more than one pilot flight crew member unless that person has made at least three takeoffs and three landings within the preceding 90 days, and--

Barbossa: First, your return to shore was not part of our negotiations nor our agreement so I must do nothing. And secondly, you must be a pirate for the pirate's code to apply and you're not. And thirdly, the code is more what you'd call "guidelines" than actual rules. Welcome aboard the Black Pearl, Miss Turner .

It has been awhile. Too long. So even if the code says 90 days, my own personal limitations have been exceeded. I'll have an instructor in the right seat the next time I go up. Too conservative? Not for me.

The bill for the insurance company is on my desk.
The 'soft economy' has left us with just one wage earner in the house. My job is in transition, as IBM sold my division (of 600 people, labs, equipment, etc) to Dassault Systemes. Hopefully I won't have to move.

Its just really hard to justify the expenses right now. So I've decided to go dormant once again. To wait for a better time, another opportunity.

  1. Well Dave, that just means you have to fly with friends in the mean time. I hope all works out soon for you. It's been so long since we actually caught up in person anyway, so send me an email or give a call and we will set something up. I am thinking of flying on April 11th with the quakertown pilots group for breakfast again, I could pick you up at q-town if you wanted.
